THE GULF
The Gulf of Carpentaria is a large, shallow sea enclosed on three sides by Australia’s northern coastline. The land that meets that coastline is as vast as it is wild. This series is a selection of black and white images from a 4WD Action DVD trip, where the team forged their own way to the coastline of The Gulf, an area where no white man had travelled to by car previously.
Over a 3 week period the team travelled extensively through a 1 million acre property called Lorella Springs. Bigger then some countries in Europe, Lorella Springs is a waterfront wilderness connected to The Gulf and full of waterfalls, hot springs, unique rock formations, crocodiles & fishing locations.
Following a helicopter flight over the coastline, the team began their 30 kilometre journey to The Gulf. Driving through thick bush, dry creek beds, shrub and bushfires began to expose the challenges of this trip. Having travelled only 20 kilometres battling endless tyre punctures and damage to the vehicles, the team succumbed to their vehicles damage, and chose to travel the remaining 10 kilometres to The Gulf by boat.
The DVD from this trip can be seen with 4WD Action Magazine issue #188.
